In other news, it looks like she might be regretting her remarks about never having been kissed, because she shuts down Diane Sawyer (and anyone else remember when Diane Sawyer was, like, a real journalist? Because this interview is just embarrassing) pretty quick when she tries to bring it up. Really, the focus on it has been sort of creepy. I’d also be pretty creeped out by Piers Morgan’s offer to be her first kiss had she not already told an interviewer — early on, before she was asked by the umpteenth media outlet about her virginity — that she would like to kiss him. And at least it would shut down all the talk about her first kiss at some point and allow everyone to move on.
Then there’s the makeover talk, and I’m glad to see that she’s also shutting that down by insisting that she doesn’t want to change too much. I’m also glad to see that Amanda Holden agrees (though I’d be less glad if Susan had *wanted* a makeover, and Amanda was deciding for her). A great part of her appeal is her real-person-ness, and going too glam would wreck that.
I just love this woman. And yea, what is UP with Diane Sawyer?
I really found the initial reactions from the judges and the audience to her to be soooooo…. what’s the word? …. annoying? snobbish? no, that doesn’t cover it, but you know what I mean. Because even if she had NO talent, she should have been treated with more respect. The fact that she ends up having remarkable talent doesn’t excuse their initial eye-rolling and smirks.
Kat, you’re absolutely right. It’s as though she made up for her “unfuckability” by having amazing talent, so it’s okay. She has redeemed herself. That has been bugging me, and you really put your finger on why.
As for Diane Sawyer, that interview is embarrassing. She treats Ms. Boyle as though she were some sort of mental dolt, as though Ms. Boyle will giggle and simper becuase she’s, you know, not hawt, so she’s grateful for Diane’s attention.
I really like that Ms. Boyle is nobody’s fool.
And “Cry Me a River”? (swoon) I’m buying a CD too.
I agree with Kat and tinfoil hattie. And please let me know when Ms. Boyle’s CD’s are available.
I listened to her 2nd rendition - Memories. I never liked this song but I must admit there was emtoion and moisture in in eyes listening to Susan. One amazing lady. What a legend. Please let me no when her CD is released I most certainly will be buying one.
I see this woman’s heart and it is full of goodness. I hear her words and they are goodness. Her eyes are her soul and they are goodness.
Congratulations Ms Boyle I salute you, you are truly amazing and from all accounts deserving. I honour you, I will look forward to waiting for the Finals. Best of British luck!
