Wow, self-serve dog-washing stations?

I think I'll pass on the instructions; so far, it's just the one time, and maybe it means we're good for another few years, or until she starts scooting again.

She's not happy having anyone poke around with her arsehole, which I have to do to put the butt cream on her. It retracts up into her body, so I can't really tell if I have the stuff in the right place.

Sadly, we have to do Smokey Dog's anal glands once every two weeks. Because he gets backed up so easily, we do it the less recommended way (externally)- this isn't recommended only because it might not fully empty them BUT with dogs that fill up pretty quickly or with glands that aren't arranged just so to empty themselves, it is actually pretty easy, and on him it is easier than the internal way because his aren't quite positioned where that works as well. If you give her a bath, this is the best time to do it, and it doesn't require any fingers in bums. E-mail me if you want the full details on both ways to do it (not really that gory, but I'm sure not everyone wants to read it). Grooming is way too expensive around here but we have a great pet food chain (Pet Food Express) that has self-serve dog washing stations that are AWESOME.

My dog Daisy had to have her anal glands drained once. It was pretty much the most pathetic I've ever seen her. And she couldn't even put her tail between her legs on account of the vet having his finger up her butt. She was looking at us like, "I thought you loved me!"

Scout used to need her anal glands drained on a monthly basis. The vet very nicely offered to show me how to do it, which I declined. To save money, I would take her to the groomer. Its considered a grooming service believe it or not. I was just happy to have it done.
