Congrats on being offered the place at Shakesville!
zuzu, I don’t want to bother you, but have you seen xen’s post over at correntewire? i know you post there and I am scratching my head trying to figure out if it’s supposed to a parody of some of the sexist arguments used against Clinton (ie, ‘you wouldn’t hire your plumber’s wife to fix your pipes’). does anyone have an opinion on parody vs. non parody?
Sorry for the second post, I just wanted to say that I would ask xen about it herself except I don’t have an account there and they’re hard to come by these days.
I don’t think it’s parody; there’s too much frustration evident there.
Not to mention, that is such a tired argument. Even if you discount her experiences as First Lady (and it’s worth examining why people are so quick to discount them), she’s been in the Senate for two terms. And she’s called hearings in *her* subcommittee.
That’s what drives me nuts, she still has twice as much experience as he does even if you mock and degrade everything she did as First Lady (ah, but her Seante experience doesn’t count either. Political dynasties may be extremely common in the US, but when it’s a woman you know she’s just a useless golddigging [fill-in-the-blank] riding on a man’s coattails and she wouldn’t be anywhere without him. McCain may have used his wife’s money and connections, but he’s a serious and distinguished person who could have pulled himself up by his bootstraps all on his own if he’d had to, and Bobby Casey would sself-evidently still be governor if he were Bobby Jones, and what does it matter anyway how they got there, they’re there, give them enough respect to judge them on merit). And if experience on the national scene chairing taskforces etc. does not count, then please don’t try to count state legislature experience as if that’s at all relevant to anything on the national level. I know my state legislator pretty well, and he’s about as qualified to be President based on that experience as the local florist or I are.
*sighs* I was hoping for parody, since there was even something in there about “Bill’s inability to be entirely convincing he didn’t see this as his third term.”
