But is there anything more satisfying than pulling off a pore strip and seeing a good crop of blackheads stuck to it?

I love doing that!
Chef luuuuurves the pore strips, and he’s always disappointed when he doesn’t end up with a little forest scene.
My facialist won’t let me do those anymore. Turns out that ripping the blackheads out of there is bad if you have rosacea — who’d'a thunk it?
She will tell me when really cool-looking things come out of my pores, though.
(Yes, I have a facialist. I love her, and my skin is much better now.)
I do miss pore strips. You felt like you’d accomplished something. And it was really cool when you’d get a big “tower” of muck.
Those never work for me, so I wouldn’t know. But I suspect that yes, it is quite amazing.
I got one the first time I used them that left a visible hole in my nose. It was so cool.
Shiseido used to have a lower-priced line called 5S that had a pore mask that was basically a pore strip in a tube. I loved that, but the line was discontinued.
Sarah, I discovered that I only really get decent results if I exfoliate first (baking soda mixed with cleanser works best for me), follow with a clay or charcoal mask to suck the little bits of goo towards the surface, take a shower while rinsing off the mask, then use the pore strip. Otherwise the dead skin cells that sit over my pores block them and don’t let the strip grab.
Oh, and here’s Lauren, drawn by another mention of a gross bodily excretion.
Oh thank god, I really thought I was the only weirdo out there going “HAHAHA, suck it, blackheads!” Actually I haven’t used one in a while, but this definitely tempts me to pick up a pack next time I’m at the store.
Charcoal mask? Where do you get these?
The pore-strip thing is cool, as is using one of those gluey masks and pulling it off in one big peel.
Origins.
LUSH makes an adzuki-bean-flour cake called “Sweet Japanese Girl” that is a very gentle facial exfoliation thingie that is even safe on some kinds of rosacea. Body Shop used to sell plain old adzuki flour for the same purpose; not sure if they do anymore.
Oh my god, you’re right.
I swear if you started posting about poop this would be my favorite blog.
