Whoohoo!

Not only did I have a good run* this morning, but timely application of an icepack both when I first got home and then when I got to work has prevented my knee from stiffening up and refusing to bend!

One has to look for victories where one can.

_______

* Despite getting derailed almost from jump because Miss Thing decided that nothing would do but that she had to take a dump 30 seconds after I started, in spite of the fact that I’d been walking her around for 10 minutes prior to getting underway.

    Nice job, Zuz.

Do you happen to have a link to that running program you’ve started? I’d like to check it out myself.

I am with you on the giving-up-drinking-thing. I like a glass of wine now and again, but overall drinking has not been a positive experience for me. Sure, it can be a real hoot sometimes. But certainly it is something that I can live without.

Now, if you can only convince me to run…. (I am seriously considering it, once I get off this couch… )

It’s the Couch to 5K program, Linnaeus. And it’s a nice, gentle way to start. I’m in the middle of Week 2, which means I’ve moved up from alternating 60 seconds of running with 90 seconds of walking to alternating 90 seconds of running with two minutes of walking. By the time of my fun run on Nov. 3, I’ll already be at 2.5 miles at a stretch, which is pretty good.

Kat: good bra and good shoes. And get your shoes fitted at a running shop, not Foot Locker.

Thank you, zuz. I’ll check it out.

Great job! Good runs leave you with such a lingering positive mood.

Related to the ice pack, an alternative I really loved when I did my couch to marathoner transformation was the cool bath. Just enough water in the tub to cover hips, knees, ankles (no belly), straight out of the cool tap or just enough warm to make it bearable, for 10 minutes tops. This worked much better than ice packs, was more widespread, and really helped my recovery time. I read it in either “runner’s world” or “marathoning for mortals” or something and thought it sounded ridiculous until I tried it.

Kat: and if at all possible some sort of transportable music. seriously, without my carefully chosen, constantly rotating running playlist, I would NEVER run, but thanks to my iPod nano I’ve made it to week 4 of Couch to 5k and am starting week 5 tomorrow (probably).
