Things I should have gotten a picture of

And I even had my camera on me, too.

I was at a tiny farmer’s market in Park Slope today, where I bought roughly 20 pounds of tomatoes (yay fresh tomatoes! Yay sauce!), plus assorted fruit (plums! raspberries!) and vegetables (jalapenos! red and yellow peppers! garlic!). Skipped the pickle guy, even though his stuff looked good.

The last booth on the way back to the subway was that of Bubba Rose Biscuit Co., a doggy bakery based in Park Slope. The woman in the booth had a lot of tattoos, and it wasn’t until I was getting my change from her that I noticed the tattoo she had on her right bicep:

Mr. T’s head. Atop a cupcake.

    I’m so stealing that idea.

Don’t forget the speech bubble with “I pity the fool.”

I want some of the sauce.

I gotta get a move on with that. Plus, do a load of laundry.

But I bought a huge bunch of basil at another farmer’s market yesterday, which will go very well with my Jersey tomatoes in the sauce.

I’m jealous - the only farmer’s market in my neighborhood is only open one day a week during work hours. Some of my neighbors are trying to get another one started, but the business owners in the area are opposed.

We live “in the sticks” as our friends put it. My partner came home with 30 pounds of tomatoes from a local farm 2 weeks ago. I made sauce with half and she made paste with the other half. I’m off today to buy a case of peaches to can in a light ginger syrup. Yay, summer produce!

The sauce is fabulous. I’ve never made it with fresh tomatoes before, and it makes a huge difference.

I didn’t bother with the skins and seeds, though, since I won’t be serving it to other people. It’s mine! All mine!

In fact, I ate a big bowl of just sauce last night.

Mind sharing a recipe? There are pounds and pounds of fresh tomatoes to be had here, too. I could use some sauce that’s good enough to eat alone!

In other produce news, corn is now tasty as hell and 8 for $2, but if you want to put some up and you need a corn zipper, Williams Sonoma is out. I had to order one online from Creative Kitchens, but it got here just in time. I am looking forward to my wintertime corn chowder.
